Shelves and/or Bannister

What’s the expression? Killing two birds with one stone? Here the client wanted an open shelf that would function also as a bannister protecting a stairwell. This dual concept is great for small apartments or rooms. The see-thru design maintains an airiness while functioning as a book and knickknack shelf. The wood is of dark stained Sapele. At the far end, I turned a Pagoda to function as a handhold for one to descend the stairs. The style could be called either Gingko or Tao.
